Access to Recovery is a program run by SAMHSA ( Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) since it was inaugurated in 2003 by President Bush. The program aims to make clinical treatment and recovery services affordable and available for those who need it by providing them with vouchers to pay for the treatment. The Access to Recovery program aims to provide individuals with the tools to manage their own recovery, allow access to different means of treatment, and assess which treatments would best suit the needs of the individual. The program is available to those 18 years and older who have a substance abuse problem and who are involved in one of the following Connecticut State Agency programs: Department of Corrections, Depart of Children and Families, National Guard Members and Veterans, Hartford Community Court and others.
Clinical treatment includes individual and group therapy and counseling, as well as medical treatment. Recovery support provided by Access to Recovery generally helps with family counseling, employment, and other aspects of re-entering society.
