2017 Drug Trends in North Las Vegas

2017 Drug Trends in North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas is notorious for drugs, drinking and its fast-paced lifestyle. Although situated in a picturesque setting, the dealings that happen in the city belie its apparent calm and demeanor.  The city is a high drug traffic zone and is highly regulated by federal officials working together with local law enforcement agents. The city itself is home to 226,877 people.

The Heroin Problem

One of the biggest drug problems in North Las Vegas is that of heroin. The number of people who have died from heroin overdose in the last 11 years has nearly quadrupled, states a report by the Centers for Disease Control.

Percentage of People in Rehab

There have been a total number of 4,921 rehab admissions in the previous year, which is 2.16% of the entire population. This number is predicted to increase slightly this year according to health officials. This is because drug use is reported to have gone up by 1.4% since last year. However, it’s not all bad news, seeing as general admittance rates are lower than they were in 2007.

Prescription Drugs

Prescription drugs are not the newest craze on the market, but they are certainly gaining traction. Over the last 10 years, the per capita sales for two of the most frequently abused prescription drugs Oxycodone and Hydrocodone saw a respective increase of sale of 366% and 233%.

Pharmacy break-ins by desperate drug users are becoming the norm and are cause for concern say DEA officials. This marks the importance of high-quality rehab centers that can help people kick the habit and live a clean life.
