Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers That Accept Horizon Health Insurance

Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers That Accept Horizon Health Insurance

The drug and alcohol addiction epidemic has hit New Jersey particularly hard. Data from the State Attorney General’s Office indicates that eight people per day succumb to a fatal overdose. At the same time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports consistently high rates of fatal alcohol-related crashes in New Jersey. It is one of the Northeastern United States’ most heavily plagued areas for opioid use disorder and it’s affecting residents of all cultural and economic backgrounds.

The tidal wave of addiction fatality that is sweeping through the Garden State demands comprehensive, affordable and accessible treatment resources to help substance use disorder (SUD) sufferers regain their health and rebuild their lives. One of the means through which stakeholders are endeavoring to fill these gap is through the increased coverage of treatment by patients’ health insurance, including one of the nation’s largest insurers: Horizon NJ Health.

Addiction Rehab Coverage by Horizon NJ Health Insurance

Horizon NJ Health is New Jersey’s largest managed healthcare company, covering more than 500,000 children and adults in the Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare programs.

The company offers four distinct types of healthcare plans, including:

  1. Medicaid Managed Care
  2. NJ FamilyCare
  3. Horizon NJ TotalCare (HMO SNP)
  4. Managed Long-Term Services & Supports (MLTSS)

Each of these plans offers different levels and components of care that dictate the scope of coverage and exactly how much you or your loved one will pay for treatment. Horizon NJ Health members are encouraged to call their insurance company for an exact breakdown of their coverage and whether or not the treatment their consider is covered.

What Horizon NJ Health Plans Cover Alcohol and Drug Rehab

The two primary Horizon NJ Health plan types that cover alcohol and drug rehab are their Horizon NJ TotalCare (HMO SNP) and their Horizon NJ TotalCare (HMO SNP) options. All other members are covered by what is called for fee-for-service. Fee-for-service (FFS) is a payment model where services are unbundled and paid for separately. In health care, it gives an incentive for physicians to provide more treatments because payment is dependent on the quantity of care, rather than the quality of care. Alcohol and drug treatment services covered under Horizon NJ Health include:

Each Horizon NJ Health plan covers methadone maintenance therapy. Other types of medication-assisted treatment therapy, such as buprenorphine (Suboxone®) and naltrexone (Vivitrol®) may be covered under specific circumstances. Members are encouraged to call their insurance representatives to find out their options going forward. Mental health treatment, including those for conditions most commonly associated with co-occurring disorders, are covered under the aforementioned plan types

Medically Supervised Detoxification and Enhanced Detox through Horizon NJ Health

Detox is a critical part of the addiction treatment process and should be handled by experienced and qualified medical professionals who can intervene in the event of a serious medical emergency and mitigate withdrawal symptoms. The immediate inpatient medical detox process typically lasts three to seven days, depending upon patients’ progress and the scope of their substance use history. Additional ongoing medical support may be essential for patients who are experiencing lingering withdrawal symptoms and associated physical health issues. Inpatient or ambulatory detox is vital to help patients safely and comfortably overcome the worst of their withdrawal symptoms, and can drastically decrease the likelihood of relapse.

Behavioral Rehab through Horizon NJ Health

Horizon NJ Health offers a wide array of behavioral rehab services to help members address the psychological and lifestyle aspects of substance use, including:

  • Inpatient – Patients reside in a treatment facility for the duration of care. New Jersey’s system of care for inpatient treatment services is comprised of six levels: sub-acute detoxification, sub-acute enhanced medically managed detoxification, short-term residential treatment, long-term residential treatment, halfway house services and residentially assisted partial substance use care.
  • Outpatient – Patients attend multiple weekly treatment sessions and return home at the end of each treatment day. New Jersey’s level of care for outpatient treatment services is comprised of six levels: early intervention, outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP) and methadone intensive outpatient (MIOP), day treatment/partial hospitalization, and ambulatory detoxification and 6) opioid maintenance therapy.

New Jersey also provides a wide variety of pre- and post-treatment recovery support services to help patients seamlessly transition into treatment and thrive in their long-term recovery.
