What types of services do you offer?

I offer services to women, children, and couples

What issues do you specify treatment for?

Sexual addiction

What therapy modalities do you use in your practice?

Task based treatment that incorporates homework assignments (ex: reading, surveys, writing assignments, etc.) to help pierce through denial and educate individuals regarding their addiction cycle. Also, addiction recovery groups.

When should one seek treatment?

When they feel they are suffering from out of control sexual behavior and want to come out of the shadows of living in shame.

Why should someone choose to come to your practice?

Sex is a celebration when shared in the context of a loving committed relationship. It’s difficult feeling isolated and fear and guilt can make sex feel like it’s a bad thing. I want to encourage the client that I can help them through this difficult time and educate them regarding the addiction cycle. Building a support system filled with trust and accountability and encouragement is part of the recovery process.

What relationship exists between mental health and substance abuse? What services do you provide for someone suffering with either and/or both?

Addiction is and can be a label used for so many different behaviors. When one addiction is “fixed” it’s usually replaced by another addiction. The “fix” needs to be addressed with a professional be it substance or sexual addiction. Addiction is addiction plain as that. The mental health field has been limited in its resources because of funding and insurance blocks. There is a “quick fix” mentality that the majority of society has. Fix it and be done with it. While there are many mental health workers who do not want to see this happen; their hands are tied within the boundaries of which they work. Because of these boundaries I choose not to work with substance abuse.

What types of services do you offer?

I offer counseling services to couples and individuals ages thirteen and over.

What issues do you specify treatment for?

In the individual counseling I offer I see a wide range of clients dealing with issues of anxiety, depression, grief and loss and addiction. (It is however, my belief that maintaining abstinence from an addiction is best managed in a group a setting, individual counseling is a great way explore your own emotional situation on a much deeper level than a group can offer.)

In couples counseling I enjoy working with couples that are in distress. Helping couples reconnect and learn they can trust in each other is extremely rewarding.

What therapy modalities do you use in your practice?

Person centered therapy and Emotionally Focused couples therapy.

When should one seek mental health treatment?

Whenever life seems overwhelming and you feel like you could benefit from a safe place to be able to openly and honestly discuss your emotions without judgment or criticism.

Why should someone choose to come to your practice?

I do everything I can to create a non-judgmental, healthy environment so that you can explore what you are going through and come out better on the other side with a renewed sense of confidence in your own abilities. My main goal is for my clients to find the happiness they deserve whether that is with me or another therapist.

What relationship exists between mental health and substance abuse? What services do you provide for someone suffering with either and/or both?

What relationship doesn’t exist between those two? From a young age we are often taught it is best to suppress our emotions, what better way to suppress emotions than with substances. I do believe there is a genetic factor for most addicts, but this just speaks to the need to be even greater to know how to effectively process emotions. Individual counseling can offer a great place to start to look at some of the underlying emotions that may have been covered up by the substance. Group settings are great to maintain sobriety, but to really be able to explore your inner world on a deeper level, individual counseling is a great addition.
