What types of services do you offer? What issues do you specify treatment for?

I offer several different services. I am a licensed chemical dependency counselor and do assessments for substance use disorders of any kind. I offer individual counseling for substance use disorders and any related disorders or issues. I work with co-occurring disorders and have 24 years of experience in these various fields. I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist-Advanced. I also, practice medical hypnotherapy to include pain management. I am a certified facilitator for the American Lung Association's "Freedom from Smoking  Program". I am an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist, using auricular acupuncture to help with the detoxification and withdrawal from substances.

What therapy modalities do you use in your practice?

I use several modalities in my practice. My primary modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Cognitive Behavioral Mindfulness Therapy. Clinical Hypnotherapy is used when appropriate and can help the client who is "stuck" or is looking for quick behavioral change, Brief Solution Focused Therapy is used if the client is looking for help with only one or two problems and seeks quick resolve.

When should one seek treatment?

I feel one should seek treatment when any area of their life is being negatively impacted by emotional or behavioral issues and what they are doing is not working.

What relationships exist between mental health and substance abuse? What services do you provide for someone suffering with either and/or both?

The relationship between mental health and substance abuse is like which came first, the chicken or the egg? One has a definite impact on the other. One can cause the other. Both need to be treated. Generally, substance use should be addressed first since AOD use and cause and or affect mental health. If possible, both need to be addressed at the same time.

With my services, I provide a safe atmosphere and unconditional positive regard for the client. I meet the client where they are and allow the client to grow and make the changes they want to make by using the various modalities I offer.

What types of services do you offer? What issues do you specify treatment for?

We accept many of the major insurance carriers and offer a sliding fee scale ranging from $40-$150 based on household income.

What therapy modalities do you use in your practice?

Primary treatment modalities include cognitive behavior therapy, family systems, existential, and brief solution focused therapies.

When should one seek treatment?

It is our belief that most clients wait too long to seek treatment. All too often clients wait until a problem is causing a serious or significant interference in their life and they are in a state of crisis with very few emotional resources with which to confront the problem.  Thus, clients who are emotionally exhausted have difficulty motivating themselves to engage in the necessary steps to change the problem. Therapy is best begun when a client still has plenty of emotional resources with which to attack the problem and some motivation to change.  The therapist can then help to problem solve the various options and direct the change to be most effective for the client.

What relationships exist between mental health and substance abuse? What services do you provide for someone suffering with either and/or both?

Substance abuse co-exists with many mental health issues, either as a distraction from or avoidance of the key problem.  This tends to exacerbate the problem and again impairs the clients ability to actively work toward changing the problem. AlphaPsych, PLLC is not primarily a drug treatment clinic; however, many of our clients have comorbid problems, meaning that they use substances inappropriately alongside a mental health problem.  Treatment for the mental health problem will take steps to confront the inappropriate reliance on the substance abuse and consider whether moderation or abstinence might be the best option for the client to pursue.
