The SAMHSA, OAS (Office of Applied Studies) reports offer estimates regarding drug and alcohol abuse in the state and in Tigard, OR. The estimates show that for the combined years of 2005 and 2006, Oregon was note to be consistently ranking high for drug and alcohol abuse, especially for two age groups, namely 12 years and older and ages 26 and older. Though the prevalence rates of drug and alcohol abuse among the different age groups have fluctuated during the four years of review, they have remained either above or at the national rate. To combat this problem, there were about 232 facilities for treatment of drug problems during the years studied.

Our directory listings of rehab centers in and around Tigard, OR, are aimed at helping those who are facing drug or alcohol addictions. You or someone you know might be in urgent need of detoxification and therapy for such problems. The rehab centers that we have listed might offer you different types of treatment suitable to the particular client, the kind of addiction, the duration, the intensity and so on. Professional medical personnel will ascertain the kind of medical assistance you need. For instance, in the case of cocaine and marijuana, there is no need of medications in the process of detoxification, whereas addictions to heroin and opiates might need them.

What relationship exists between mental health and substance abuse? What services do you provide for someone suffering with either and/or both?

The relationship between mental health and substance abuse can be complex. Many people with mental illness have a form of self-medication using drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, the abuse of these substances doesn’t treat the condition and almost always makes it worse. We use individual therapy such as, cognitive behavioral therapy, to work with our clients. We also try to coordinate care with the individual’s physician to treat the whole client.
