Medicare in FL
Are you 65 years or older, or are a young person with a disability and have a substance abuse or addiction problem? Are you enrolled in Medicare? Medicare is the federal government health insurance and sometimes it can cover some or all of the treatments relating to substance abuse or drug addiction. There are some things you do need to know before assuming that Medicare will cover the cost of your treatment. Firstly, you must get treatment from a facility or a provider that is enrolled with Medicare; the doctor must state that treatment is not optional, but medically necessary; the doctor must put in place a treatment plan for you. Medicare Part A might be able to cover some of the cost of inpatient care, whilst Medicare Part B might be able to cover the cost of some outpatient care.
A study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that one of the most prevalent abused drug amongst those aged 65 or older in Florida were prescription drugs. This was followed by alcohol, medicines bought over the counter, and illicit drugs. Prescription drugs can be just as dangerous as illicit drugs when abused. In 2008, 4,924 people died in Florida from a prescription drug overdose, according to the Florida Medical Examiners Report. If you are over the age of 65 and you think you might have a drug or alcohol problem, Medicare might be able to cover some of the cost of treatment.
