WHAT THERAPISTS IN WHEAT RIDGE HAVE TO SAY

What therapy approach(es) do you utilize? What issues do you specify treatment for?

I use a very strength-based, humanistic approach. The client is the expert and I am a guide, teacher, and often reflector to help them see things in a different light. I work primarily with different types of trauma and how unresolved trauma can impact individuals. I use a mind-body approach, often using techniques such as EMDR, mindfulness, body-centered therapy, and some DBT.

How does one know if therapy is right for them?

It is an individual decision. I think someone knows by paying attention to how they are physically and emotionally reacting to taking a risk by entering into therapy. Therapy is a lot of work, so there needs to be a level of motivation and a desire to make some changes or work on seeing something differently.

What can one expect to gain from therapy?

Relief, peace, autonomy

What is unique about you as a therapist?

I try and tailor my approach to the individual I am sitting with. I am also very transparent, genuine, and authentic.

What relationship exists between mental health and substance abuse?

I think we all experience trauma and many times things such as substance abuse, relationship issues, self-harming behaviors, suicidality, etc. can all come from having some unresolved trauma and just wanting some rest and relief from the symptoms.
