How to Afford Treatment: Low-Cost Ways of Getting Clean

January 22nd, 2014

People have many reasons for procrastinating when it comes to obtaining treatment for drug or alcohol addiction. Of these, a lack of financial resources should never hold you back. If you are ready and willing to seek help for your addiction but feel constrained by your economic status, know that there are options available.

If you happen to have health insurance, first find out if your health insurance covers rehab. After this, contact local treatment centers and ask about acceptance of your particular provider and plan.

If you do not have insurance, or rehab isn’t covered, begin researching immediately. Grab a list of local treatment centers that are close to your area. Then, ask each location on your list if they have payment plans suitable for what you can afford.

If you have Medicaid, Medicare, or any other federally-funded health coverage, ask the centers on your list if those benefits can help cover treatment costs in any way. And if you’re uncertain about the coverage you have, the clinics will have information for determining your eligibility.

There are many free drug and alcohol counseling centers run as not-for-profit organizations. Such institutions include the Cleveland Clinic and Hazelden. Contact places like these in your area and see what options they have available for you!

If you have the willpower and the desire to quit your addiction and begin work on a new life, there are tons of people and resources out there whose sole purpose is to help people just like you. If you’re ready to begin treatment, these avenues should lead you in the right direction appropriate for your unique situation.
