Need a mental time-out? Interested in meditation, addiction recovery, and free events in the Seattle area? Our neighbors at Northwest Buddhist Recovery have connected with Buddhist author and addiction specialist Kevin Griffin to put on a weekend of inspiring seminars, meditation teachings, and recovery practices. As is their philosophy, the events will be free of charge.

Friday, June 7, 7PM – 9PM: Visit the Mountaineers Club in Magnuson Park for a seminar on the topic of “Meditation and Recovery: Letting Go of Grasping and Aversion.” Donations will be accepted at this event to help support the author, who has humbly offered to speak for free.

Saturday, June 8, 9AM – 5PM: Venture just north of Seattle to the Wat Atamma Buddhist Monastery in Woodinville, WA and be a part of “Four Truths, Twelve Steps: The Meeting of Dharma and Recovery Retreat.” This day-long retreat will explore how meditation and Buddhist practices can be a beneficial supplement to 12-step recovery programs. Included in the retreat: introductory meditation instruction, lecture, interactive exercises, and the sharing of a midday meal with the monks.

Northwest Buddhist Recovery encourages all to participate in this unique event, regardless of meditation experience or recovery path. It’s a wonderful opportunity for those who are interested in mindfulness and recovery to receive free introductory teaching and to explore how meditative practices can be a powerful tool in addiction recovery.

Pre-register for the full-day retreat on the NW Buddhist Recovery website.
