A Halfway House is a home for people who are in recovery from substance abuse, such as alcohol and drug addiction. The Halfway House provides a residence outside of a traditional treatment facility. It also helps to reintegrate those in recovery back into society. The Halfway House helps residents to find employment and their own home, while also giving them a social, and support, network of sober peers. Halfway Houses have rehabilitation programs for the residents, including individual and group therapy sessions. The aim is to ease the transition back into society. The rehabilitation programs monitor the residents’ progress and provide support. It is a continuation of the programs residents would have received at a treatment facility. This, coupled with the reintegration effort, means that the resident is fully equipped by the end of their stay to re-enter society.
